SpeedRunners 2 Tier List (Preliminary)

Disclaimer: SpeedRunners 2 has not finished its post-launch balance life. This tier list is a preliminary practice guide for the pre-release and early launch window. It does not claim hidden damage numbers or unique confirmed kits. When in doubt, shared movement and pickups decide races.

Tier philosophy

We rank for:

  1. Clarity on screen in 8-player modes
  2. Demo accessibility for learning
  3. Community familiarity for communication (“play Hothead”)

We do not invent win rates.

Preliminary tiers

S — Best practice anchors

Speedrunner — default fantasy of the franchise; ideal for tutorials, VODs, and teaching friends via How to Play.

A — High-visibility learners

Hothead, Unic — strong silhouettes for tracking while you study Items and camera rules in Stay On-Screen.

B — Style picks with equal fundamentals

Moonraker and other demo-available runners — excellent once your Controls are stable.

Returning legend watchlist

Falcon, Cosmo, Buckshot — emotionally S-tier for veterans; mechanically TBD until you play them live. See Returning Heroes.

How to use this list

  • Learning movement? Park in S/A.
  • Content creation? Pick high-contrast A names.
  • Tournament prep? Ignore cosmetics; drill Advanced Tech and Tournament Mode formats.

What will NOT change tiers

Fire-wall elimination, blue-ceiling grapple rules, and item behaviors apply equally. A “low tier” silhouette with perfect Movement & Grapple beats a favorite skin with panic inputs every time.

When we will rewrite tiers

After launch patches, ranked data culture, and clear official ability blogs (if any). Until then, update your own notes with the Practice planner.

Competitive scene context

SpeedRunners 1 survived on community tournaments and creator energy. King of Speed adds 64-player brackets and HD presentation — expect tier chatter to explode on day one. Treat streamer hot takes as entertainment until reproducible.

Final warning

Anyone selling a “guaranteed OP character” before broad launch data is guessing. Master the fire wall, not the rumor mill.

Practice drills by tier band

S-tier sessions: Record one clean lap on Demo Maps with Speedrunner. Narrate every jump aloud — if you cannot explain it, you cannot teach friends.

A-tier sessions: Run Hothead or Unic in an eight-player demo queue. Count how many times you lost track of your own runner during missile spam. If the number exceeds three per race, drop to bots until silhouettes read cleanly.

B-tier sessions: Moonraker aerial routes on blue-ceiling sections from Movement & Grapple. Focus release timing, not placement.

Returning legend sessions: When Falcon or Buckshot appear live, repeat the same drill on the same map with Speedrunner first, then the returning hero. Only promote the legend if tracking improves measurably.

Common tier list mistakes before launch

  • Copying streamer mains without matching their Controls layout or hours in Local & Practice.
  • Blaming characters for fire-wall deaths that were pure camera lag from Stay On-Screen ignorance.
  • Skipping items because a tier list said movement only — Utility Items decide brackets as often as jumps.
  • Arguing balance before September 3, 2026 launch data exists — update personal notes instead of forum wars.

Post-launch rewrite triggers

Rewrite your personal tiers when any of these happen: a ranked season stabilizes, patch notes mention movement or pickup changes on What’s New, or you cannot reproduce a “broken” claim in ten bot races. Until then, this page ranks learning value, not esports gospel.

Keep this page bookmarked

Revisit this Tier List after every demo patch and again on September 3, 2026 launch week. Cross-check binds in Controls, routes in Maps, and lobby types in Modes so your notes stay aligned with Fair Play Labs’ live build — page key: content\source\characters\tier-list.json.
