SpeedRunners 2 Lobby Etiquette
The unspoken rules that keep eight-player races fun for everyone.
SpeedRunners 2: King of Speed is a party game with a ranked ladder underneath. The etiquette rules split cleanly between casual Custom Lobbies and competitive Ranked or Tournament modes. September 3, 2026 launch day will bring a massive influx of day-one players, many arriving through Xbox Game Pass on console — etiquette matters more that week than any other.
Casual lobbies: be welcoming
Casual custom lobbies and quick match are where Game Pass newcomers learn the game. The etiquette bar is simple: do not gatekeep.
- If a new player asks which character to pick, answer with one sentence and link them to the Characters Hub.
- If a new player keeps bonking on a wall jump, offer one tip and move on. Detailed coaching belongs in Local & Practice, not in ranked chat.
- Do not ask new players to swap off a “mained” character because you do not like their silhouette. The Demo Cast page is for opinions; the lobby chat is for fun.
- Emotes between races are welcome. Emotes during someone else’s recovery grapple are not.
Ranked: play to win, but stay human
Ranked Mode is the closest thing SpeedRunners 2 has to competitive integrity. The etiquette is stricter:
- Finish the tutorial set before queuing ranked. Strangers should not have to teach you slide basics in chat.
- Do not quit mid-race. The demo and the release build both penalise disconnects, but more importantly, mid-race quits ruin the seven other players’ races.
- Mute is your friend. If a teammate or opponent is toxic, mute them and report after the race via Steam tools. Do not escalate in chat.
- Read the room. After a clean loss, a single “gg” is enough. Walls of text about netcode or item RNG help nobody.
Voice chat
Voice chat is opt-in in the Steam demo. The etiquette bar:
- Push-to-talk is the default for a reason. Open mics create feedback loops that ruin audio cues — see Audio Cues for what you lose when your mic is bleeding into the capture.
- Do not stream-snipe. If you recognise a streamer’s voice in ranked, play normally. They earned their climb; sniping is a reportable offense.
- Coordinate with team modes only. If you are in a free-for-all, voice is for friends only and should be in Discord, not in-game.
Tournament lobbies: bracket-first
Tournament Mode is bracket-style elimination built for streamers and community nights. The etiquette is the strictest:
- Sign up only if you can play the full bracket window. Late drops force re-seeds and angry tournament hosts.
- Read the format announcement. Some tournaments ban duplicate characters, some ban Golden Grapple pickups, some run double-elimination. Respect the ruleset.
- Tournament chat is for bracket logistics only. Trash talk belongs on stream chat, not in the lobby.
- After your last race, stay for the finals. Watching the bracket close out is the social contract of community tournaments.
What to do when someone is toxic
SpeedRunners 2 ships with text chat and Steam-side reporting. The escalation ladder:
- Mute. The first response to every toxic interaction is muting. The mute button is in the lobby menu.
- Report. Steam-side reporting is the only reporting that bans accounts. In-game reports feed Fair Play Labs’ community moderation but do not bypass Steam tools.
- Leave. If a lobby is repeatedly toxic, leave and re-queue. The matchmaking pool will eventually move you to a healthier lobby.
- Block. Steam blocks prevent future lobbies from finding you. Use them sparingly — blocking a friend is awkward to undo.
Console etiquette (PS5, Xbox, Switch)
Console players have a different etiquette layer because text chat is shorter and voice chat hardware varies.
- Adaptive controller users are welcome. Do not comment on input method unless they ask.
- Game Pass crossplay brings PC and console together. PC players using keyboard have an advantage in precise inputs; console players have an advantage in couch reactions. Beating each other is the point.
- Switch handheld players will sometimes drop frames during item-heavy packs. This is the platform, not the player. Do not harass.
When the game is the problem
If the game has a genuine bug — desync, crash, missing item spawn — the etiquette is:
- Do not blame the lobby host for a server-side bug.
- Capture the bug with Steam screenshot tools or console capture.
- Post it on the SpeedRunners Discord or Reddit with the timestamp and map.
- Wait for a patch. Fair Play Labs have a strong track record of patching demo bugs before launch.

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Is there voice chat in SpeedRunners 2?
Yes, voice chat is opt-in and push-to-talk by default in the Steam demo. Most players use Discord instead — see [Community Discord](/tools/community-discord/).
How do I report a toxic player?
Mute first, then report via Steam tools. In-game reports feed Fair Play Labs but Steam reports are the ones that ban accounts.
Can I kick a player from my custom lobby?
Yes — the lobby host has kick and ban controls. See [Custom Lobbies](/modes/custom-lobbies/) for the full host toolkit.
Are Game Pass players different?
They are regular players who happen to be on Xbox Game Pass. Some are newcomers; treat them as such. The [Platforms & Game Pass](/review/platforms/) page covers crossplay behavior.
What is the rule on quitting mid-race?
Do not. Mid-race quits ruin seven other players. Both the demo and the release build penalise disconnects; the social cost is higher than the matchmaker cost.
